Lifeguarding & Aquatics

A lifeguard certification card is easy to hand out. A guard who can recognize a passive drowning victim, get to them, bring them up and start care is a different thing entirely — and that is what our aquatics courses are built to produce. Certification is the paperwork. Competence is the point.

Wicked Safety Training is an American Red Cross Premier Licensed Training Provider. We teach from our Woburn location and travel to pools, waterfronts and camps throughout New England for on-site certification. Our aquatics classes are led by credentialed aquatics professionals who guard, coach and manage facilities themselves.

Lifeguarding: The Full Course

The full Red Cross Lifeguarding course is the starting point for anyone who has never guarded before. Candidates have to meet prerequisite water skills before the course begins, and we tell people that plainly up front rather than letting them find out on day one. If you are not sure you can meet them, call us and we will walk you through what to practice.

The course moves through surveillance and scanning, active and passive victim rescues, spinal motion restriction in shallow and deep water, extrication, and CPR/AED and first aid at the professional-rescuer level. We run appropriate class sizes with correct instructor-to-student ratios, because a rescue you performed once while eleven people watched is not a skill you own.

Recertification and Review

Returning guards need a review course, not a repeat of the full class. Recertification sessions are shorter and focused on skill verification. Timing matters: recertification has to happen while your current credential is still valid, so check your expiration date before you book.

Waterfront Lifeguarding

Guarding a camp waterfront is not guarding a pool. You cannot see the bottom, the boundaries move, and a missing swimmer becomes a search problem instead of a spotting problem. The Waterfront module covers open-water surveillance, line and pattern searches, and the environmental judgment calls waterfront staff make constantly. Camps across New England run this with us as a pre-season on-site block.

Water Safety Instructor and Swim-Lesson Instruction

Water Safety Instructor is the credential behind every learn-to-swim program worth running. It covers the Red Cross swim curriculum, stroke progressions, lesson planning, class management for mixed ability levels, and how to teach a nervous child or an adult who has avoided water for thirty years. It is a teaching course as much as a swimming one.

Facilities growing their own lesson staff often send two or three strong guards through WSI and build from there. We will run it privately so your team trains in the pool they will teach in.

Private Swim Lessons and Event Staffing

We also offer private one-on-one and small-group swim lessons for families who want individual attention rather than a crowded public class, and certified private lifeguards for pool parties, group beach days and private events — so the adults at your event can be guests instead of the safety plan.

Who These Courses Are For

  • New lifeguards — teenagers and adults certifying for the first time
  • Returning guards — staff renewing before a season or a facility audit
  • Aquatic facilities — town and city pools, clubs, YMCAs and hotels certifying a whole staff
  • Camps and recreation departments — waterfront and pool staff who need certification before opening day

Turnkey Certification for Aquatic Facilities

Most facility managers do not want to coordinate a certification program — they want their staff certified and the paperwork done. We handle it end to end: we come to your pool or waterfront, run the course on a schedule that fits your hiring timeline, and manage rosters, eCard issuance and certification records. Online registration and eCard delivery are available for most courses.

Group, corporate and recurring-training discounts are available, and we build custom annual training plans for aquatic facilities and camps that need the same certifications every spring.

Why Facilities Work With Us

Founded in 2019, Wicked Safety Training brings over 100 years of combined staff experience, and our founder has more than a decade of hands-on life-safety teaching experience. We are also an AHA Training Site and an HSI Training Center, so a facility needing lifeguard certification, BLS for clinical staff and first aid for the front desk can get all of it from one provider.
