Instructor-Level Training

Teaching life-safety skills well is a different job from performing them well. Instructor-level training is where experienced providers learn to run a room, correct skills without embarrassing anyone, and sign off on a certification they can stand behind. Wicked Safety Training runs instructor pathways through both Red Cross and HSI, and we support the instructors we certify long after the course ends.

Register for a Class

We opened in 2019 to raise the standard of life-safety education across New England, and the fastest way to do that is to train better instructors. Our staff bring over 100 years of combined experience to these courses, and our founder brings more than a decade of hands-on life-safety teaching experience to how they are structured.

Course at a Glance

  • Pathways: American Red Cross and HSI
  • Where: Public classes at 546 Main Street in Woburn, or on-site anywhere in New England
  • Prices and dates: Prices change regularly, so check the registration page for current prices and class dates

Instructor Pathways We Offer

We run instructor-level courses across the disciplines we teach every week:

  • CPR / First Aid Instructor for candidates who want to teach lay-responder and workplace courses
  • BLS Instructor for clinicians and EMS professionals teaching healthcare-provider audiences
  • Lifeguard Instructor for aquatics professionals certifying lifeguards at pools and waterfronts
  • HSI Instructor Trainer development for instructors ready to certify other instructors

Course structure, prerequisites and materials follow the issuing agency's current requirements. We confirm exactly what a given pathway asks of you at registration, before you commit anything.

Who Instructor Training Is For

Experienced Providers Moving Into Teaching

Most of our instructor candidates are nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and lifeguards who already do the work and now want to teach it. You know the skills. What the instructor course adds is the teaching craft: how to demonstrate a compression at the right pace for a room that has never done one, how to run remediation without shutting a student down, and how to document a course so the certification behind it means something.

Organizations Building In-House Instructors

Hospitals, school districts, camps, aquatic facilities and larger employers often reach a point where outsourcing every class no longer makes sense. Certifying one or two of your own people as instructors gives you scheduling control, faster onboarding for new hires, and training that fits your operation instead of a generic calendar. We help organizations pick the right candidates, get them through the pathway, and stay aligned with a Training Center afterward.

Training Center Support After You Certify

Getting the instructor card is the beginning. Staying active as an instructor means being aligned with a Training Center that handles the administrative side properly, and that is where a lot of new instructors get stuck.

Wicked Safety Training is an American Red Cross Premier Licensed Training Provider, an AHA Training Site, and an HSI Training Center. Aligned instructors and organizations get real support from us, not a name on paperwork.

What Alignment Actually Covers

  • Roster management so your class records are submitted correctly and on time
  • eCard issuance so your students receive their certifications without chasing anyone
  • Certification management including tracking instructor status and renewal requirements
  • Curriculum and materials guidance so you are teaching to the current version, not last cycle's
  • Direct access to our team by phone and email when a course throws you something unusual

Instructors who teach independently, instructors employed by an organization, and organizations running their own internal programs can all align with us. The arrangement is built around what you actually teach and how often.

The Multi-Agency Advantage

Holding all three credentials in one place is unusual, and for instructors it matters more than it might sound. Different employers require different agencies. A hospital may specify AHA. A camp or municipal recreation department may specify Red Cross. A workplace safety program may run on HSI.

Because we work across all three, we can help you choose the pathway that matches the audience you intend to teach rather than the one a single-agency provider happens to sell. If your teaching later expands into a second agency's curriculum, you are not starting over with a new Training Center and a new set of contacts.

How We Run Instructor Courses

We keep class sizes appropriate and hold correct instructor-to-student ratios. In an instructor course that is not a formality. Candidates need real time in front of a room, real feedback on their teaching presentations, and enough repetition to build the confidence that carries into their first solo class.

Every course is taught by working RNs, EMTs, paramedics and credentialed aquatics professionals. The people teaching you to teach are still practicing what they teach, which keeps the instruction grounded in what actually happens in a clinic, on a call, or on a pool deck.

Our philosophy applies here more than anywhere: certification is the paperwork, competence is the point. We would rather send you out slightly humbled and genuinely prepared than hand you a card and wish you luck.

Location, Scheduling and Registration

We teach public classes from our location at 546 Main Street in Woburn, serving Greater Boston and the North Shore, and we travel throughout New England for private on-site instructor training when an organization is certifying a group. Online registration and eCard delivery are available for most courses.

Group, corporate and recurring-training discounts are available, and we build custom annual training plans for organizations that need instructors certified and renewed on a predictable cycle.

If Your Schedule Changes

Need to change your date? Transfers requested more than 24 hours before class are available for a $50 fee, subject to availability. Aquatics courses follow a separate refund schedule. See our Terms.
