Babysitting, Wilderness & Camp Training

Some of the most important safety training happens with the youngest people in the room. A thirteen-year-old watching two kids on a Friday night and a nineteen-year-old counselor three miles from the trailhead are both, in that moment, the responsible adult. These programs make sure they know what to do. Certification is the paperwork. Competence is the point.

HSI Child and Babysitter Safety (CABS) and Safe Sitter

HSI Child and Babysitter Safety (CABS) is often a young person's first real safety course, and we treat it that way. It covers supervising infants and children safely, feeding and diapering basics, choking and injury response, and recognizing an actual emergency. It also covers the parts nobody teaches: how to talk to parents about expectations, what to have written down before they leave, and how to handle a situation that feels wrong.

Safe Sitter covers similar ground with its own curriculum, adding a strong personal-safety component for adolescents staying home alone as well as caring for younger siblings. Parents often ask which fits their child better — call us and we will walk you through the difference honestly.

What Parents Should Know

These courses are hands-on. Students practice on manikins, work through scenarios out loud, and leave having done the skills rather than watched a video about them. We keep class sizes appropriate with correct instructor-to-student ratios — for this age group, that is the difference between real learning and sitting quietly at the back. Certification details are confirmed at registration.

Wilderness First Aid Through HSI

Standard first aid assumes an ambulance is minutes away. Wilderness First Aid assumes it is not. Our HSI course is built for what camps, trip leaders and outdoor programs actually face: an injury on a trail, a long carry-out, and a decision about whether to evacuate or wait.

It covers field patient assessment, managing injuries over extended time, heat and cold emergencies, improvised splinting and packaging, and evacuation decision-making. Camps and outdoor programs across New England run it as a pre-season on-site block.

Camp Staff and Recreation Department Training

Camp directors have a narrow window. Staff arrive, orientation starts, and everyone has to be certified before the first bus of campers pulls in. We build around that window rather than asking you to build around ours.

Leadership training covers active supervision, headcount and transition procedures, recognizing a camper in trouble, incident response and documentation, and how a counselor escalates when a situation exceeds their training. Most camps run it alongside First Aid/CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid as one orientation block.

On-Site Before the Season

We come to you. Staff learn in the buildings, on the trails and at the waterfront where they will work, and nobody arranges transportation for twenty-five nineteen-year-olds. We stack certifications across consecutive days so the staff finishes together with one completed record.

Scheduling Around Academic and Camp Calendars

Almost everyone here is on a school or camp calendar. Sitter students are in class until June. Camp staff are back at college by late August. We plan around vacation weeks, pre-season windows and orientation weeks instead of offering one fixed schedule and hoping.

Who These Programs Are For

  • Young babysitters and their parents — families who want a first sitting job backed by real training
  • Summer and residential camps — counselors, trip leaders and leadership needing pre-season certification
  • Recreation departments — town and community programs certifying seasonal staff
  • Childcare centers — staff who need current pediatric-focused emergency training
  • Outdoor and scouting programs — groups operating where help is delayed

How We Work With Organizations

For camps and recreation departments we handle the whole program, not just teaching hours: scheduling, on-site delivery, rosters, eCard issuance and certification records, so nobody is chasing paperwork in July. Online registration and eCard delivery are available for most courses, group and recurring-training discounts apply, and we build custom annual training plans.

Founded in 2019, Wicked Safety Training is an American Red Cross Premier Licensed Training Provider, an AHA Training Site and an HSI Training Center, with over 100 years of combined staff experience and a founder who brings more than a decade of hands-on life-safety teaching experience. That multi-agency footing means one provider covers your counselors, your kitchen staff and your camp nurse.

Registration and Rescheduling

Need to change your date? Transfers requested more than 24 hours before class are available for a $50 fee, subject to availability. Aquatics courses follow a separate refund schedule. See our Terms.
